New York Times has the best graphic design department anywhere. Their interactive election graphics are awesome always. But they also manage amazing clean and intuitive graphics for other stuff. Once for instance, they'd put up the best description I've seen of the difference between hard, grass and clay courts in tennis.
Today's graphic describing Michael Phelps victory in the 400m medley at Beijing is pretty much up there as well. Unfortunately I can't find a way to embed it in this page.
